Panoramic Xray is taken to get oneimage of all your upper and lower teeth (upper and lower jaw) including some important anatomic features like temporomandibular joint (TMJ), maxillary sinuses, 3rd molar positioning (wisdom teeth) etc. This X ray is obtained extraorally (out side the mouth).
